As a matter of course, he fell afoul of his predecessors above all, he honored Marx by pouring out upon him the full vials of his wrath. Dühring, privatdocent at Berlin University, suddenly and rather clamorously announced his conversion to Socialism, and presented the German public not only with an elaborate Socialist theory, but also with a complete practical plan for the reorganization of society. The present little book is, originally, part of a larger whole. * * * 1892 English Edition Introduction General Introduction and the History of Materialism He explains the relationship between previously-existing types of socialism, which ultimately considered the reorganization of society as a question of appealing to the better sentiments of the ruling class, and that of Marxism, which recognizes the material basis for the antagonism between capitalist and worker, and, with the aid of this knowledge, seeks to reorganize society through the class struggle. In this popular pamphlet, Engels describes the greatest accomplishment of Marxism - that of transferring Socialism from the realm of abstract morality and basing it upon the laws and potentialities of the world as it exists.

Books like the witching hour5/28/2023 I did not feel like I was reading a historical novel. Although so much of the Mayfair history is from centuries past, Rice finds interesting ways of telling the story. However, excuse the pun, I was spellbound. This was my first encounter with the books by Anne Rice, and I certainly chose a lengthy book to start my explorations. It is the story of Rowan, and her new-found love Michael Curry, but also about a “ghostly” lover named Lasher, who has loved all the Mayfair witches from the beginning of time, and it is about Aaron and the Talamasca a group who has chronicled the Mayfair family and may be able to help Rowan learn what she needs to survive her legacy. This is an epic series about the Mayfair family, from the first Mayfair witch to be burned at the stake, to the current Rowan Mayfair, a neurosurgeon living in California who is now discovering her family. The Witching Hour by Anne Rice is the first in The Mayfair Witches Trilogy.

Gradually, Unger learns the sinister origins of his host's wealth and the frightening lengths to which he will go to preserve it. It tells of young John Unger, who is invited to visit a classmate at his impossibly lavish home in Montana. The story was inspired by Fitzgerald's 1915 visit to the Montana home of a Princeton classmate, Charles Donahoe, and was one of Fitzgerald's few forays into the realm of fantasy. In September 1922, the story appeared in his second collection, Tales of the Jazz Age. Fitzgerald had attempted to sell it to the Saturday Evening Post, which had published many of his other stories, but its harsh anticapitalistic message was rejected by the conservative magazine. Scott Fitzgerald's story "The Diamond as Big as the Ritz" first appeared in the June 1922 issue of The Smart Set, a popular magazine of the 1920s.

Long walk to freedom book5/27/2023 The foster son of a Thembu chief, Mandela was raised in the traditional, tribal culture of his ancestors, but at an early age learned the modern, inescapable reality of what came to be called apartheid, one of the most powerful and effective systems of oppression ever conceived. He is revered everywhere as a vital force in the fight for human rights and racial equality. As president of the African National Congress and head of South Africa's anti-apartheid movement, he was instrumental in moving the nation toward multiracial government and majority rule. Since his triumphant release in 1990 from more than a quarter-century of imprisonment, Mandela has been at the center of the most compelling and inspiring political drama in the world. Nelson Mandela is one of the great moral and political leaders of our time: an international hero whose lifelong dedication to the fight against racial oppression in South Africa won him the Nobel Peace Prize and the presidency of his country.
